Award-Winning Photographer & Creative Director
in Haliburton, Ontario, Canada.
Dana McMullen received his first Nikon over 30 years ago from his father. It sits on a shelf in his studio, alongside his father’s Canon, and inspires him every day to hone his skills as a photographer and to always appreciate the beauty that surrounds him.
Dana has had the good fortune to travel and explore many parts of North America, allowing him to pursue his love of the art of photography and capture some of Mother Nature’s finest offerings. Dana had spent the last 8 years living and working in the U.S. in such places as, Southern California and Northern Arizona before returning home in 2020 to Canada and making Eagle Lake, Ontario his new home base.
Using light to capture feeling and create mood, Dana hopes to take others beyond the obvious of the photo’s setting and give them a new perspective and appreciation of the wonderment of nature.
Over the past decade, Dana’s photography has been published in National Geographic 12 times and in the Arizona Daily Sun, Arizona Highways Magazine & Discovery HD and he’s had images featured on NBC Los Angeles and Phoenix.
Dana had long standing exhibits at the Laguna Gallery of Contemporary Art and Forest and Ocean Gallery in Laguna Beach, California and has had showings at the Newport Beach Art Exhibition.
In 2017, he received the honour of being a featured photographer in the Smithsonian Exhibition in Washington, DC to celebrate the 100 Year Anniversary of Yellowstone National Park.

I’ve spent two decades chasing light in iconic landscapes in hope of capturing an epic moment. A lot of failure and disappointment ended up on the cutting room floor when Mother Nature failed to cooperate, but the thrill of the chase was worth it.
Shoot lots. Shoot often. Because you never know who’s going to take notice.
— Dana McMullen
Behind The Shot
On January 25th, 2017, Dana was featured on an episode of "Behind The Shot", on This Week In Photo. He was invited on the show to discus the shot and technique used to capture the image that was featured in National Geographic. Hoya Filter USA Top 5 of 2021
On December 29, 2021, Dana was awarded by Hoya Filter USA for capturing the #3 Top Shot of 2021. This image of the 2021 summer solar eclipse was captured using a Hoya Starlight Cross Flare Filter. https://hoyafilter.com
Global Exposure
It was exciting news for Dana to have been selected as 1 of 5 photographers to have contributed images to BHP's, "We Help Big Thinkers Think Big" worldwide campaign, produced by The Gate. It was a great team effort on behalf of The Gate to bring Dana, Frank Gehry and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California to get this image licensed for the projected 333 million global impressions.
Look for it on a billboard, or in an airport in a major city near you.
